Lindsay Lohan Would Body Swap Freaky Friday-Style with Her Son: ‘He’s Just This Beautiful Bundle of Joy’ (Exclusive)

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis spoke to PEOPLE at D23 on Aug. 9 about their return for ‘Freakier Friday,’ the sequel to their 2003 comedy

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are sharing more details about their Freaky Friday sequel and some sweet insight into who they’d switch bodies with in real life.

During Disney’s D23 fan event showcase in Anaheim, Calif. on Aug. 9, fans got the chance to see the stars speak about the sequel to the hit 2003 film, as they revealed the title of the new movie: Freakier Friday.

PEOPLE spoke exclusively to the pair at the event, where the two stars revealed how their relationship has developed over the years, their feelings about the new movie and who they would trade places with if they had the chance for a Freak Friday-esque body swap.

“Anyone? Maybe my baby,” Lohan, 38, laughs when asked by PEOPLE who she would switch with for a day.

“Just to see — because he is, so pure and just so happy, just to see life through his eyes, every day. He’s just this beautiful bundle of joy. I can’t think of anything else,” she continues of her son Luai Shammas, 1, whom she welcomed in 2023 with her husband, Bader Shammas.

For her part, Curtis, 65, wants to experience what it’s like to play basketball like an WNBA star.

“I wanna be Caitlin Clark for a day. I wanna play basketball like Caitlin Clark,” the actress says, adding, “She’s my lucky number, 22.”

Lohan and Curtis reprise their roles as Anna and Tess Coleman, the mother-daughter duo who magically switched bodies in the 2003 film. Elsewhere in the conversation with PEOPLE, the two actresses discussed their ongoing friendship and how it has developed since they made Freaky Friday.

“I think we’ve grown so much closer since then. Especially on this movie,” Lohan tells PEOPLE.

“Lindsay was 15 going on 16 when we made Freaky Friday. And it was a big success. It was a big success for both of us,” says Curtis, adding that the first movie was a pivotal moment in both of their lives.

“And I just feel like since that time I’ve always tried to make sure that she understood that I existed in a very real way and that it wasn’t some fake movie, that we were friends and that I cared about her. Because there are many hard things about being, being a young actor in the glare and spin of this business is awful,” she continues.
Lohan says that while at 15 she “didn’t realize” the success as she was “so young,” now she is older she can see its impact more. “As I get older, seeing how much people have loved it and how much it stays with people, it’s in people’s homes, that’s when you realize what an impact it had on people and how much of a success it was,” she explains.

Curtis also says that besides people asking her about her Halloween movies, “the only thing, any country anywhere, whoever it is,” wanted to know about was “Are we making another Freaky Friday?”

“So I called [Disney CEO] Bob Iger and said ‘Bob, we should make another.’ It was time. And Lindsay is now a mommy and Lindsay is old enough to be the mom of a teen,” she says, adding, “I mean a young, young mom — you’re old enough to be a mom, but it works.”

“I really think at the end of the day, this is a love letter to mothers and daughters,” Curtis adds of the new movie.

“It’s so beautiful to see the three generations in this,” shares Lohan. “It’s so beautiful to see how Anna looks to Tess for advice. But then Tess still wants to kind of come in and give out the advice. And Anna has become a little bit like Tess in a way very much in this… which is what happens in life. You always become a little bit like your mom!”

On the night, Lohan and Curtis took to the stage at D23 and revealed the name of the sequel to the excited audience.

“We have a new title, but I don’t know if we should share it here,” Curtis said.

“Come on, Jamie, it’s D23 — these are the best fans in the world!” Lohan responded. After Curtis playfully checked her costar knew the title of the sequel, and the pair then counted to three and shouted out the name of the new movie: “Freakier Friday!” to delighted cheers from the crowd.

Also returning in Freakier Friday from the original cast are Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao.
In addition to some familiar faces, the sequel will include new characters played by Manny Jacinto, Julia Butters, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Sophia Hammons.

It is written by Dollface creator Jordan Weiss and directed by Nisha Ganatra, who has previously directed episodes of Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales as well as 2019’s Late Night starring Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson.

Disney confirmed the film is set to hit theaters in 2025.
