Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis discuss reuniting with Freaky Friday co-stars on the sequel Freakier Friday and reveal the film has more ‘swapping’ than the original

More than two decades after Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis starred in the Disney remake Freaky Friday, they are discussing their return for the sequel.

Their 2003 film was a remake of the original 1976 adaptation of Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel of the same name, starring Barbara Harris and a young Jodie Foster.

The story – following a mother and daughter who switch bodies after reading a mystical Chinese fortune cookie – will continue with Freakier Friday, with Lohan and Curtis reprising their roles as Anna and Tess, respectively.

Both Lohan, 38, and Curtis, 65, sat down with IMDB to discuss the sequel, which is currently in production with Lohan spotted on the L.A. set on Wednesday.

They both spoke about reuniting with practically all of their co-stars from the 2003 movie while teasing that they won’t be the only ones who will swap bodies.

Fans had been discussing the possibility of a sequel for years, with both Lohan and Curtis publicly lobbying for one as well, when Disney finally announced it last May.

When asked what it was like when she asked Disney to make a sequel, Curtis said she practically insisted that they make this.

‘I don’t think I said we want to, I think I might have said you have to make a sequel, I don’t think I was asking,’ she joked.

‘The truth is, I’m quite old and I’ve worked a lot and everywhere I go, the movie that people want to know about is Freaky Friday,’ Curtis said.

‘With all the other work I’ve done, Freaky Friday is the one they wanted, so when I came back from world tour, I did call Disney and say, “We need to be making Freaky Friday,” and now we are.’

Production started in late June, with Disney setting a 2025 release date, with Lohan gushing about the production, stating, ‘It feels like a rhythm that never stopped.’

She even confirmed that Tess’ band from the 2003 film – Pink Slip – will return, stating, ‘Pink Slip is returning in full force with a lot of love in their hearts. And it’s so much fun. And it feels like the band never left each other.’

Lohan did tease there is a ‘new song in this that is really beautiful.’

While they couldn’t say much about the story for the sequel, Lohan teased it has, ‘the right amount of funny, the right amount of freaky.’

Curtis added, ‘The movie is just freakier in all aspects. It’s funnier, and there’s more physical comedy. The switches are freakier.’

She added that returning co-stars Mark Harmon and Chad Michael Murray are also, ‘freakier,’ This one has more swapping.”

Curtis teased, ‘I can’t tell you what it is, but I have a secret way of reminding myself [which character I’m playing], but I can’t tell you until you see the movie, or until we’re promoting the movie, and then you’ll know a lot more about the movie.’
