Lindsay Lohan Discusses Her New “Less Is More” Fashion Era

We’re in the era of a Lindsay Lohan renaissance, and it’s a beautiful thing.

The star has simply never looked better, and with the Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday, on the way next year alongside Jamie-Lee Curtis, the actor is back in Hollywood — full force. Not to mention, she has been a prominent name at New York Fashion Week, too: Last night, Lohan attended the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women dinner, which raised over $3 million to support organizations such as the Girl Effect, It’s On Us, and the National Network to End Domestic Violence. “I was honored to be invited by Balenciaga to support this wonderful cause and honor the beneficiaries,” Lohan tells Vogue.

Lindsay Lohan is no stranger to being a part of the fashion week glitz and glamour, of course: She has been front row at many a show over the years. But she says the September presentations and events are always her favorite to partake in. “I love Fall in New York City,“ Lohan says. “The weather is crisp, but the sun is shining. I haven’t really been to [fashion week recently], as I have not lived in America for a decade. It’s an exciting time—the city is alive.”

For the Kering dinner — which also saw stars like Dakota Johnson, Kim Kardashian, and Salma Hayek in attendance — Lindsay Lohan wanted to exude classic glamour on the red carpet. She looked to Balenciaga to do so, choosing a black lace design. “My stunning dress was off-the-shoulder, black sheer lace with hand-sewn crystals,” she says. “It’s very Old Hollywood.” Lohan has a longtime love affair with the label—from carrying its city bags throughout the 2000s, to more recently, wearing a glittering gown to the Vanity Fair Oscars party. “I have a lot of Balenciaga in my closet,” she says. “One of my favorite pieces is a navy and white pinstripe fitted blazer with gold buttons.”

These days, Lohan admits her fashion sensibility is all about more streamlined, classic silhouettes. When it comes to red carpet dressing, she says she takes a less-is-more approach. “I like clothes that are effortless and chic, but comfort is key,” she says. “My red carpet moments need to be authentic to me. I am happy to go outside my comfort zone, as long as I know I’m wearing the outfit and it’s not wearing me.” (Great advice for anyone, no?). Perhaps we will see this refined new fashion era on the Freakier Friday press tour. “Freakier Friday will be filled with lots of laughs and heart,” Lindsay Lohan teases. “It’s exciting to have the cast back together. This film will be great for any age. I can’t wait.”
