Demi Lovato Has ‘Waited My Whole Life’ for Fiancé Jordan ‘Jutes’ Lutes: ‘He Treats Me So Amazing’ (Exclusive)

Lovato revealed to PEOPLE at a screening for their film ‘Child Star’ that “it’s very easy to stay centered with him”

Demi Lovato says building a support network with her fiancé means “everything to me.”

On Thursday, Sept. 12, the 32-year-old Disney Channel alum (who uses she/they pronouns) appeared at a screening of their directorial debut Child Star alongside fiancé Jordan ‘Jutes’ Lutes at the NeueHouse Hollywood, where the pair stepped out in coordinated black outfits.

Speaking with PEOPLE, the “Confident” singer explained what it meant to have Lutes, to whom she got engaged in December 2023, join her for major milestones.

“You know, I’ve waited my whole life for him and to have him be a part of this just makes it that much more sweet,” Lovato says.

“It’s very grounding to have a partner that is so supportive, so loving, so caring,” they later added. “And so, you know, it’s very easy to stay centered with him because I just — I love him so much and he treats me so amazing.”

When asked if the pair — who first went public with their romance in August 2022 — were holding off for a 2025 wedding, Lovato teased, “I don’t know. I can’t tell you.”

At the screening, Lovato and Lutes, 33, appeared in matching all-black outfits — as Lovato wore a stylish black dress and Lutes rocked a black suit and partially unbuttoned dress shirt.

The duo, who met when they co-wrote Lovato’s song “Substance,” made their latest public appearance to celebrate Lovato’s new film, which features conversations with child stars past and present as they reflect on being thrust into the spotlight at a young age. Lovato caught up with PEOPLE about the film this week, detailing how she “no longer” values “my success or equate my success with self-worth.”

Lovato also spoke about their relationship with Jutes, as the two-time Grammy nominee explained that the “relationships in my life” are now what brings them joy. “I’m an introvert, but I do love to co-regulate with people that are really important to me,” Lovato said.

“First and foremost, my fiancé, but my best friends, my family, my dogs… I value and I cherish love so much in my life. It means more to me than anything because that’s really truly what life is about: love.”

“I try to spend as much time with the people that are important to me as I can because careers and experiences, those are fleeting, but relationships and family and friends, those relationships are here to stay,” they added. “It’s all about connection and spending time with loved ones.”

In a conversation with Teen Vogue for the publication’s September cover this week, Lovato also revealed that she “instantly had a crush” on Lutes upon meeting the songwriter. “I live and breathe for our connection,” they said, later adding: “Everything I do, I wish I was with him. I see my future with him. I see growing old with him.”

Child Star, directed by Lovato and Nicola Marsh, premieres on Hulu on Sept. 17.
