This year’s inductees include Mary J. Blige, Cher and Foreigner
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony keeps getting more star-studded!
On Oct. 19, Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Dr. Dre and The Roots, as well as R&B stars Ella Mai and Lucky Daye are slated to present awards and perform throughout the Cleveland event at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Familiar pop mainstays Demi Lovato and Dua Lipa are also set to take the stage. Julia Roberts is also set to appear at the event.
On the country front, Jelly Roll, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney and Mac McAnally will be among those honoring the inductees. Some previous inductees, such as beloved singer-songwriter James Taylor, The Who’s Roger Daltrey, Van Halen’s Sammy Hagar, and Guns N’ Roses guitar legend Slash, will be in attendance.
This year, Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest are set to join the Rock Hall of Fame.
Alexis Korner, John Mayall, and Big Mama Thornton will also be honored with Musical Influence Awards, while Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick and Norman Whitfield will be recognized with Musical Excellence Awards. Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun also has an award in his name which will be given to television and music producer Suzanne de Passe.
Last year, Cher and Foreigner blasted the Rock Hall for not being inducted in the past, although both have since come around in 2024. In a December 2023 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cher said, “They can just go you-know-what themselves.” In April 2023, Foreigner took a similarly humorous approach with a fake post announcing their induction.
“In an unprecedented move, the entire board of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame met especially to nominate Foreigner,” the post read. “I believe that the entire board realized that Foreigner had as many hits as Fleetwood Mac, just one less than the Eagles, and more than Journey and many other Hall Of Fame alumni.”
In order to be eligible for a nomination, the artist must have released their first commercial recording 25 or more years ago, or by 1999, per the foundation.
The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Oct. 19 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT and will stream via Disney+ immediately following the broadcasting.
