How Lindsay Lohan and Ayesha Curry Met and Became Instant BFFs: ‘Oh My God, I Love This Woman’ (Exclusive)

The two women bonded in Dubai before they became costars in the new Netflix movie ‘Irish Wish’

Lindsay Lohan and Ayesha Curry share the screen in the new Netflix movie Irish Wish, but they were friends before they were costars.

In the new issue of PEOPLE, the actresses and moms reveal how they first connected.

“We met through a mutual friend, chef Michael Mina, who said to my husband, ‘Lindsay and Ayesha need to meet,’” recalls Lohan, 37, who has been married to Middle East-based financier Bader Shammas since 2022. “So then Ayesha was coming to Dubai and we met at the restaurant Mina.”

Adds Curry, 34, who was on a girls trip with her two older sisters, “We all just honestly hit it off. We were supposed to have dinner for an hour, just a little meetup, and we ended up spending the whole evening.”

“We were talking for hours,” says Lohan. “We were like, ‘What time is it?’ I left it, I was like, “Oh my God, that was so fun. I love this woman.”

For Curry, the feeling was mutual. “So I am a super introvert, and so in my adulthood I haven’t made adult friends,” she says. “It was just wild meeting somebody that I got along with so well, and we had so many common interests right away, so it was cool.”

Curry — who recently announced she’s expecting her fourth child with Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry, 36, to join kids Riley, 11, Ryan, 8, and Canon, 5 — and Lohan — who welcomed son Luai last year with Shammas — says their husbands have bonded too.

“It’s so funny because they’re both homebodies, too,” says the Mean Girls star.

“They are severe homebodies. Yeah. But I think what’s cool is they’re both really encouraging of us,” says Curry.

The two couples have become so close, Lohan and Shammas asked the Currys to be the godparents to their son Luai.

But before that, Lohan asked Curry to join her in Irish Wish, which she also produced.

In the Netflix movie, filmed on location in Ireland, Lohan plays Maddie, a book editor secretly in love with her star author Paul (Alexander Vlahos).

He, however, gets engaged to Maddie’s friend Emma (Elizabeth Tan). At the destination wedding on the Emerald Isle, Maddie impulsively makes a wish that alters the fates of the trio. Curry, who plays bridesmaid Heather, says it’s the type of movie where “you can get lost for 90 minutes and have a good laugh.”

“I was preparing for Irish Wish, and I asked Ayesha, ‘Is there something that you still want to do that you haven’t done yet?’ She was like, ‘Oh, I used to act, and I want to do it again’ I said, ‘Okay. Oh my God, you have to do this movie,’” recalls Lohan.

“And I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is happening, and it’s happening in Ireland, where I’m going to be away from my babies for six weeks? What’s going on?’” adds Curry.

Lohan’s younger brother Dakota, 27, also appears in the film as a groomsman to Maddie’s crush Paul. He also bonded with Curry while filming.

“He’s like a little brother to me now. He picked on me so much on-set, but it was great. It kept everything lighthearted, and it kept the days moving,” says Curry.

Having her loved ones together on set — Shammas is also an exec producer on the film — made for a playful environment, says Lohan.

“It doesn’t feel like work, it feels just like fun, and that’s really rare that that happens,” she says.

Irish Wish is streaming on Netflix Friday.
